Introduction

COVID 19 has influenced the world in many ways. After the Covid 19 hit the world, every industry was shattered to its last piece. The pandemic's influence was not limited to the industrial sectors only, but normal life was also infected.

Recently, the UN general secretary appealed to the government to keep an eye on domestic violence's global surge. Domestic violence is not a new issue; however, the curve has taken some drastic changes during the pandemic.

When the world was following the rule of social distancing and staying at home rules, domestic violence saw a chance to seep into people's lives. Now that everybody is spending time at home, family members who are hardly used to talking with each other are now forced to see each other every single minute of the day.

With uncertainties and different wavelengths of thoughts, fight, and unstable relationships have become a common issue. This has given rise to domestic violence.

Why Are Family Law Legal Cases On The Rise In The USA?

Over the last ten months, we have seen an increase in family legal cases. These legal cases include the followings:

  • Divorce.
  • Fighting.
  • Domestic violence.

There are several reasons for the sudden increase in the family legal canvases. And these reasons have been catalyzed by the COVID 19.

Out of all the legal cases filed in the USA, most of the cases are domestic violence. Income country's domestic violence cases are also known as Intimate Partner Violence. Though it is named after the partner, it also encompasses the child and elder abuse. You can know more on Family law in Missouri.

Here are some of the reasons that can be considered as factors of increased family legal cases.

1. Social Influence

We all know that violence is a contagious disease. If a young child sees their peers fighting, they will do the same when they grow up. This is what is happening right now. Over the past year, society has shown women to be weak and unable to defend themselves. This has given others a sense of superiority.

Domestic violence has become common in the houses that cater to everyday quarrels and fights. Women of this family are either too fragile and become victims or are too aggressive and make victims.

2. Patriarchy

Though we live in a world where we believe everyone is equal, there are still people who stick with the old school tradition and beliefs. In fact, out of all the men, 42% of shameful men actually believe that a wife-beating is always an option if their life partner has done something wrong. This has certainly been proven after seeing a sudden surge of family legal cases.

3. Economic Cause

Due to COVID 19, several industries have lost their business. This resulted in large scale job losses. The earning members of the family are now jobless people. This has created financial instability in the family. Without the right finance to support, quarreling over the smallest of things became common. This created a gap between the relationship of the family members.

4. Individual factors

There are individual factors, as well. People who have lost their job started showing their frustration to family members and life partners. Some of the factors that can be considered are mentioned below:

  • Low Self-Esteem.
  • Jealousy.
  • Lack of anger regulation.
  • Strong emotions.
  • A sense of self inferiority.

The Bottom Line

It is true that to stop the infection of the COVID 19, the government has taken strict steps to isolate people in their homes, but the government should also consider that the people are free beings; being isolated in their homes can severely affect them mentally. And once that happens, the nature of their entire being changes to violence.

The government must look for a solution that saves people from mental trauma rather than adding more stress.
